It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the premiere season of The Figaro Project, Baltimore’s newest opera company for emerging artists. Dozens of opera companies have closed recently, including the Baltimore Opera Company, and the music world has been forced to acknowledge the true fragility of opera’s position in our society. Yet this economic crisis has also fueled a movement to make opera a genre that does not disappear during times of economic hardship but remains a constant presence to give people hope throughout their difficulties.
In our first season, The Figaro Project will present two cabaret performances of arias and opera scenes and a world premiere concert adaptation of Mozart’s beloved “Le nozze di Figaro”, all featuring talented local singers. I hope that you will find inspiration in The Figaro Project and help us to make our future seasons a reality.
